More than six hundred pairs of glasses have been donated in Weymouth and Portland. The items will be recycled or sent to help people in developing countries. Organisers say every donation can make a difference.

Weymouth & Portland Lions Club has collected hundreds of donated glasses as part of a recycling initiative.

More than 200 pairs were gathered at Portland Community Action offices in Easton Square.

A further 80 pairs came from a Sue Ryder charity shop, with around 400 more donated at Boots Opticians in Weymouth town centre.

The glasses will now be sent to the Lions’ headquarters in Birmingham.

There, they will be sorted, recycled or distributed to eye hospitals in developing countries.

Organisers say the scheme helps improve access to vision care for people who may not otherwise be able to afford it.

They have thanked everyone who contributed, saying every pair donated can make a real difference.
